What is the Redwood Creek Campfire Classic?
The third Redwood Creek Campfire Classic is a national cook-off that will challenge amateur chefs and outdoor enthusiasts to submit their best, original campfire recipe, paired with one of the rich and flavorful Redwood Creek wines. Five talented cooks will be flown to New York City all expenses paid to prepare their gourmet recipes over an actual campfire for a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize and a $5,000 donation to their favorite national park.

Who is eligible?
Any amateur chef or outdoor enthusiast who is passionate enough to apply! You must be 21 years of age or older and a legal resident of the United States at the time of entry. For the purpose of this cook-off, "amateur" is defined as persons who are not graduates of an accredited culinary program, and who do not review or prepare food or recipes on a professional basis.

Why can’t Californians enter?
California Business and Professions Code Section 25600 states that no licensee, i.e. alcoholic beverage manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer, shall give any premium, gift, or free goods in connection with the sale or distribution of any alcoholic beverage, except as provided by rules that shall be adopted by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverages Control (ABC). The ABC adopted regulation 106(j) which states that a supplier is prohibited from "the giving of any premium, gift or goods of any sort, whether by way of sweepstakes, drawings, prizes, cross-merchandising promotions with a nonalcoholic beverage product or products or any other method if the value of the premium, gift or goods given to an individual exceeds $0.25 with respect to beer, $1.00 with respect to wine or $5.00 with respect to distilled spirits.

What is different about this year’s Redwood Creek Campfire Classic?
Four semi-finalists from each of the five regions—Northwest, Southwest, Midwest, Southeast, and Northeast—will compete in a semi-final cook-off in their region, then the top scoring finalist in each region will then advance to the National Cook-off hosted in New York City for a chance to earn the title of America’s Best Campfire Chef.

Where will the regional Redwood Creek Campfire Classic cook-offs take place?
Four regional cook-offs will be hosted across the country between May and June, 2008. Northeast Regional semi-finalists will compete in the cook-off located in National Harbor, MD; Southeast Regional semi-finalists will compete in the cook-off located in National Harbor, MD; Midwest Regional semi-finalists will compete in the cook-off located in Chicago, IL; Northwest Regional semi-finalists will compete in the cook-off located in Seattle, WA; and Southwest Regional Semi-Finalists will compete in the cook-off located in Fort Worth, TX. All Semi-Finalists will win roundtrip coach airfare, two nights hotel accommodations, and $200 spending money.

What are the five United States regions?
Northeast: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington DC. Southeast: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia. Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin. Northwest: Alaska, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming. Southwest: Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas.

Yes, you need to submit a recipe from the region where you currently reside.

What are considered appropriate campfire cooking techniques?
The following campfire cooking methods are acceptable in the Redwood Creek Campfire Classic: Dutch oven, skillet, skewers, cast-iron grill, spit and foil-wrapped meal placed directly over coals.

Entries will be judged based on the following criteria: Originality, Creativity and Presentation of the Recipe (0-25 points); Taste and ingredients (0-25 points); Recipe format, including step-by-step preparation instructions and exact common household measurements (0-10 points); Relevance to and the Advancement of the Tradition of Campfire Cookery (0-20 points); and Appropriateness to the Redwood Creek Wine Pairing (0-20 points).
